Meeting with European Parliament delegation to discuss vulnerabilities in Ireland’s framework for tackling illicit financial flows

22 July 2025

TI Ireland’s Head of Policy and Research, Alexander Chance, met with a delegation of MEPs and European Parliament officials during their mission to Dublin on 22 July 2025. The delegation were from the Subcommittee on Tax Matters (‘FISC’), which assists the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (‘ECON’), in particular on policies to deal with tax fraud, tax evasion and tax avoidance, as well as broader financial transparency for taxation purposes. Alongside other participants from academia and civil society, Dr Chance raised issues around beneficial ownership transparency and gaps in anti-money laundering supervision of Special Purpose Entities, as well as wider vulnerabilities in Ireland’s framework for tackling illicit financial flows. His opening statement to the delegation is available here.
