Dublin, 11 July 2007 - An RTÉ Online news item this morning titled "Concern over Parlon's new role" stated that “A Transparency International spokesman has said that Tom Parlon should not be allowed to become Director General of the Construction Industry Federation.”
This is not the case. During the interview with Morning Ireland, TI Ireland Chief Executive John Devitt, stated that TI Ireland would not comment on the specifics of Mr Parlon’s appointment to the CIF. It is not Transparency International policy to comment directly on individual cases or on any individuals concerned. Instead it was argued that safeguards should be implemented to prevent conflicts of interest arising where a former Minister is appointed to a post in the private sector.
