Who are Transparency International?
Transparency International (TI) is the leading international non-governmental organisation dedicated to fighting corruption throughout
the world. TI's campaign against corruption is supported
through a range of information, education and research programmes
around the world.
TI carries its work out through its International Secretariat based in Berlin and its network of over 100 chapters and affiliates worldwide.
Does TI investigate individual cases of corruption?
No,
nor do we 'name names'. TI is convinced that its role is best served with the support of coalitions of civil society, private business and government. Investigating individual cases could adversely affect the formation of such coalitions, by deterring individuals and organisations from becoming involved.
Why establish a chapter of TI in Ireland ?
Despite enduring public cynicism towards political and commercial actors and systems, until now, there has been no independent organisation working in Ireland dedicated to raising awareness of the human and financial costs of corruption at home and abroad. For more information on our plans for the coming year and beyond, please visit our programmes section.
Who Funds TI?
TI Ireland is currently supported by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust (JRCT), an independent charitable trust which is based in York, England. The JRCT donated €60,000 (£42,000) in April 2004 to help establish TI Ireland. In March 2006 it announced that it would offer a further €70,000 for core expenses to April 2008.
How do I become a member?
Membership of TI Ireland is open to any individual of integrity that is committed to our goal of creating a world in which corruption is no longer an accepted fact of life. Further details are available here. When was TI Ireland founded?
TI Ireland was established in September 2004 and launched in December 2004.
